Beating the Platinum Match, 5th Edition:
Recommended Abilties/Statuses:
Level 55 or higher. Aeroga and Curaga. The abilities Ars Arcanum, Strike Raid, Guard, Counterattack, Glide, Superglide,
and High Jump; HP Rage (x2), HP Haste (x2) and Dodge Roll.
If you have the time and patience, synthesize the Ultima Weapon for quick results. I don't
have the list of materials on hand, but the Moogles do.
If you don't want the Ultima Weapon, use the Olympia Keyblade for higher deflecting power.
I also recommend that the player fill his/her slots with nothing
but Elixers. Synthesize them or gather them from the Heartless that drop them, if necessary.
*Add Aeroga and Curaga to your shortcut menu and familiarize yourself with their positions.
I decided to put Aeroga on the "X" button (blue) and Curaga on the triangle button (green). Get it?
Mandatory Abilities: My BradyGames
guide also suggested this ability: SECOND CHANCE. If you don't equip Second Chance, then your fight will be twice as frustrating.
Also have the Scan ability to keep your spirits up while you fight Sephiroth (he has about five bars).

|
Using the Ultima Weapon will facilitate the battle! |
Okay, here we go!
How to Get Him: You can fight Sephiroth
(the cutie) at the Olympus Colosseum after sealing Hollow Bastion. I believe that the preceeding tournaments need to be finished
up as well, including the Hades Cup Tournament.
The Basics: This fight is in about
three or four distinct stages that get increasingly tough towards the end. If you have the skill, you'll be fine. For beginners
like me, it may take a few dozen tries (it took me two and a half months).
I'll reiterate the importance of Second Chance. One of Sephiroth's attacks (nonphysical) can
sap away all of your MP and HP in a second. Second Chance may be the key to your revival.
Rely on MP Haste and MP Rage to regain your magic points in order to heal yourself and recast
Aeroga. Do not use the Elixers unless it's necessary. Keep the Lock On feature on him at all times.
Listening to his voice is important, too. Most of his attacks can be prepared for if you remember
the things he says right before he attacks. So, for the first time around, keep those speakers on. I know you love "One-Winged
Angel."
*Magic attacks like Firaga won't work at all on Sephiroth. Stick to attacking with the Keyblade
itself.
Purple/Pink Bars: After a dramatic
entrance, the fight ensues. Get Sora to Superglide as far away from Sephiroth as possible; the range of the Masamune is longer
and larger than you think. Once you're safe, cast Aeroga on Sora and make a note to recast it every time.
This part of the battle is predictable. If you strike him one time, he'll stop and emit a pillar of flames around himself.
You can avoid damage by using a magic-based physical attack like Ars Arcanum and Strike Raid. Otherwise, you'll get hit at
least once by the flames.
In this phase of the battle, Sephiroth will just walk around slowly and attack quickly. Right now, his attacks are only
lateral, so you can jump up to avoid them. If you have enough skill, you can jump, Glide and strike him while he's open.
After a pause in your combo, he'll teleport (he does this a lot) and try to hit you from behind. You can avoid this through
listening to the sound effects (I've played waaay to many times, trust me) and jumping at the right time. It works, unless
you're on the wrong side of him.
Make a mental note that he has an impenetrable shield surrounding him, so it will take some time to get his HP bar to
show some pink. And unlike the Heartless, Aeroga nor Impact from Ragnarok will damage him.
Continue this pattern, if you see it, and heal often. The pattern will change after you get about an inch into the orange
bar.

|
You're going to learn to hate this attack very quickly. |
The Orange Bar to the Yellow Bar:
Things will begin to get heavy if you see him leap into the air, land, and beckon you. (you'll hear him, too). Lock on to
him, stand still, and wait for him to run up to you. About 99% of the time, he'll teleport right and front of you and appear
directly behind you, unless you hit him first. I recommend leaving him alone until he disappears.
If you have the Superglide ability, it will help a lot for the rest of the battle. Once you
hear him say, "Sin harvest..." lock on, Superglide your butt over to him and give him heck. If you don't, however, hit him
at least once, Superglide away from him, stop as soon as the flames go up and quickly give yourself an Elixer. You'll notice
that if Second Chance was used, you only have one HP left, so take this chance! The Strike Raid combo is a big help if
you're too far away from him to counter. Listen carefully for the incantation.
Instead of stalking you around the ring, Sephiroth will now run, lunge, jump and teleport a
lot more often. Attentiveness is key to avoiding too much damage. You can deflect his attacks with either the Keyblade or
avoid damage with Ars Arcanum and the like, as always.
At some point, he'll stop, say something (you'll recognize it), and begin a furious combo.
Since his weapon is so huge, the combos can take you out in three strokes (it's a fifteen-hit combo with one massive critical
hit in the end).
If you catch the rhythm, you can Guard all of the attacks, but prepare yourself for the end.
This can be deflected with an Aerial Sweep ability or a jump/hit combo with just the right timing. Otherwise, I advise the
use of the Strike Raid combo, since it lasts longer.
This cycle continues tediously. If you got this far, pat yourself on the back!

|
I don't recommend standing anywhere near Sephi here. |
You're almost there!
The Green Bar until the End: Depending
on your system of fighting, Sephiroth will either stand somewhere and start to glow green (he's powering up now!), or teleport
repeatedly and then glow. I think the latter is cooler and gives you time to freshen up, if necessary.
Now Sephiroth's glowing an eerie bluish-whitish hue and is about to unleash some ugly attacks
on you, in addition to that status-sucking spell, running, and the flying combos.
But first, he'll teleport to the center of the ring and summon a bunch of meteors. It's easy
to avoid their entrance if you either Superglide around him or jump repeatedly.
Then the meteors will begin to rotate around him as he gathers energy for a massive attack.
I recommend using the Strike Raid combo to avoid damage at all. If you don't want to use your MP just yet, try a little Frogger-style
dodging!
Sephiroth's invincible now, at least until he causes the final attack here and retrieves his
weapon. Afterwards, a bunch of violet orbs will surround you or either be left behind by Sephiroth. Get Sora to run past these
orbs before they cause him damage. Try to stay away from Sephiroth after the meteor attacks.
Now he'll begin a hideous spinning attack that goes two ways before its completion (he uses
this attack frequently, even right after teleportation). Again, you can avoid damage by Supergliding (most of the time this
will work) or using Ars Arcanum. I usually chose Ars Arcanum over Strike Raid during this phase since Sephiroth doesn't stay
in one place for a long time.
*He will use that status-sucking attack again, but he will say something that I can't decipher.
It's easier to lock onto him at all times.
It's easy to tell whenever he's going to spin: he says, "Dodge this!" ALL...OF...THE...TIME.
It gets so annoying....but it's an advantage to you.
*The aerial combo that he does is sometimes done twice in a row by him at this phase of battle.
Be prepared!
Continue this pattern until the very end, and you'll eventually defeat Sephi!

|
He's angry that a 14-year-old with a huge key defeated him. |
You don't get anything much after this fight but a random
level-up. However, you'll get some awesome bragging rights!
Fighting Sephiroth on a regular basis, before ending the game, can help you out during the
final boss fights right before you enter the door at Final Rest. Try it out if you have the patience!
